Trying to figure out what is wrong with my 1995 chevrolet 1500 silverado 4×4?
compfreak asked:
how do you find out what is wrong with a 1995 chevrolet 1500 silverado 4×4 transmission? They gave it to me, already saying it had some problems but not knowing wht it was. I have been trying to fix it up, but don't know where to start. How do i find out where the problem lies with the transmission? what should i do, should i go and just find another transmission for the same vehicle at a junk yard or something.? need help.
the transmission i have that they gave me with the truck is in the back of the truck, taken apart already, well at least most of it. i need to know what parts go together so i can put it on the truck to find out what is wrong with it, unless there is an easier way you all know about to check out the transmission without putting it back on with the truck?

Transmissions r very complicated. I would first check filter and fluid after that if its still messed up ur truck is very common for parts. I bet you could find 1 for $200 give or take. Junkyards are a gamble but a good 1 will warranty it for 1 month so dont waste time getting it in. You could take to a trans shop ask them. I just bought 1 for a 2000 chevy for $400 and that was a good deal cuz other junkyards wanted $600 used (Hydraulic) and a new 1 was $1200 to $1900

have a transmission shop check it out/rebuild it. unless you have reaaaaalllyyy good sources for instructions on the rebuild you'd be screwed. automatics can be quite a beast.
