My 1997 Olds Aurora low oil pressure warning messages come on .Is this common problem? Is it Repairable at a reasonable cost? I love this vehicle and would **** to junk it if it was repairable. I understand this is a common problem with the Northstar engine. The engine does not knock or rap when running or use excessive oil .I had a repair man look at it and he said it wasn’t worth fixing. I heard mechanics don’t like to work on these motors because they are impossible to re-build. Any positive would be highly appreciated.

First, low oil pressure warning lights will be set off if oil level in the pan is low.
General low oil pressure is effected by loose oil clearances on the rod and main bearings as well as lifter bore clearance.
Outside of that, the NorthStar engine typically asks for a 10W30 oil.
Try Royal Purple 10W30 (avail at Wal Mart) and you can run 8,000+ mile change intervals with that oil. It is slicker than Mobil 1.
Try a Wix brand oil filter(available at Oreilly).

i recomen the amsoil its much beter oil and olmos the same price as royal purple and last three times more and the wix filter #51522 or the amsoil ea064 and i recomend an engine flush and induction flush frome amsoil products and you see de diference probabli you need to see diferent mechanic
