WOOT american cars! ive never had a ford but i love my cadillacs and lincolns! no japenese made car/suv can compare to my escalade or town car. but i love BMW aswell but really japanese cars are boring to drive and arent that great at all, had a lexus lx470 and dumped that trash its pickup was terrible seats sucked, a massive cost to maintan and got my caddi! which is amazing!

Years of economic protectionism in the american auto industry has meant that foriegn cars have had to be much better just to compete in the US market. Now US auto makers are paying for years of high union wages, pensions, and a history of weaker products. Many foriegn car companies are getting rich from having better products at a lower price. Right now the US auto industry is going through a very painful restructering that HOPEFULLY will return it's products to the forefront of the market, both in quality and price.

But yeah, listening to people brag is never fun. I personally like subaru, so I don't like to listen to people say Fords are best. You like Fords, so you don't want me to say Subarus are best. So… I won't.

some people always need something to brag about…. but if they didn't design or build the car, they shouldn't be bragging, you should ask them what kind of house they live in and maybe they should go live in Japan since clearly they are better engineers than we are

If you like US cars – well thats your business.

However, I stick to Japanese and Korean cars
because I cant afford all those maintenence
and running costs.

LOL, toyota has built there Reputation. And well deserved it. Do your research… More american cars will visit your local dealership to have work done on them in a year, where as toyota's hold up great, and rairly ever see the shop.

PS: how many times have you rebuilt that s-10…. I have one with 300k on it but it has been rebuilt about 6 times, ****** and all.

Well the problem is you can tell all the stories you want about Chevy S-10's with 250,000 miles and while they may be true (isolated incidents) that really doesn't mean squat when you look at the HUGE scientific surveys of 10's of 1000's of car owners to see what the real reliability is.

Check Consumer Reports. They do not take advertising. All they do is research quality and reliability and they do it better than anyone in the business and they are non-biased and scientific (much more accurate than some story about one guy with an old S-10 I'm afraid)

Look at Consumer Reports and you'll see that the two top brands for the last 10 years and beyond are Toyota and Honda.

They have much fewer problems per vehicle in every catagory for every model. PERIOD. You can argue all you want, but this is scientific data, not stories about your grandpa's uncle's nephews car.

Compare the Ford Focus to the Toyota Corolla. The Focus had no less than 10 recalls in it's first 2-3 years on the market! Horrible reliability.

Ford and other American companies do build some decent stuff. I think the new F-150 especially is a really nice looking, very rugged truck. American companies have improved a lot over the last 10-15 years.

The cold hard fact is that Toyota is number one my friend. Toyota Motor Company stock is worth about 10 times what Ford's is. Literally. Look up the market capitalization for both companies. Toyota is growing and is already selling more cars and making more money that Ford. The new Tundra will be released soon and a heav-duty diesel version isn't far away, then Ford will start feeling the pinch on the last thing is has going for it, the F-series trucks.

The American auto industry is in a slow death I'm sorry to say and everyone knows it. They have improved a lot but it may be too little too late.

THERE IS NO DEBATE ON WHETHER OR NOT TOYOTA IS BETTER THAN AMERICAN BRANDS.

If import cars are so much better than American cars why do all import dealerships have massive service departments. Have you ever been to a service department in a Toyota dealership? They are just as busy if not more than a domestic dealerships service department.

Here's an interesting tid-bit: NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. The 2007 Camry will be the only American-built car represented in the series. The Ford Fusion is built in Mexico. The Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Monte Carlo are both built in Canada.

Toyota is very much invested in America and in so many ways. While Toyota continues to build more and more factories, generate more jobs, and add to the U.S. economy; the so-called Domestic car companies are doing the complete opposite by out-sourcing to other countries and cutting jobs in the U.S. Underneath the hoods of Ford, GM, and Chrysler vehicles will contain foreign parts. Underneath the hoods of many Toyota models, are American-made parts.

There are so many cases of sharing and collaborating between import and domestic car companies that you really can't use those terms genuinely any more. Examples: Geo Prism and Toyota Corolla were basically the same vehicle (both built in the Fremont plant). Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix (same story). Ford purchased Toyota's 1st generation Hybrid Technology (the older technology that Toyota no longer uses), and then Ford turns around and claims that they were leading the way with innovation. Others: Ford/Mazda, GM/Saab, and Chrysler Daimler.

Toyota has vehicle plants in Fremont, CA, Princeton, IN, Georgetown, KY, and the new 2007 Tundra is being built in the new San Antonio, TX plant. There are even more engine and part plants in America that I haven't mentioned. Camry, Solara, Avalon, Corolla, Matrix, Sienna, Tacoma, and Tundra models are being built in the U.S. every single day.

So when an American has pride in owning a Toyota, they do have American pride.
