Can I sell a car without a title?

I live in Illinois and have a junk car that I want removed from my property. It's probably not worth even $100, but there are people who advertise in the paper that they'll buy junk vehicles for $100-$200. I really don't feel like going to the trouble to apply for a lost title when the car isn't worth anything, and the fee in my state is almost $100 anyway. Can I just sell the car as junk to someone and then let them deal with getting a new title for it?
I probably should add details…the car is an older (80s) Isuzu Trooper that doesn't belong to anyone. We bought a rental property last year and the car belongs to one of the tenants. He doesn't have the title for it, and it didn't belong to him anyway. It belonged to his grandpa who is no longer living. I'm trying to help him out and figure out how he can get rid of it…and help myself out too because we don't want the car on our property.

Yes you can. I live in California and I have junked cars before. People that buy junk cars don't even bother to get the title either. They just report the car to the DMV as junked

I transfer salvage vehicles daily, and cannot do so without the previous owner's signed title. Check with IL dmv.

In my state no one would touch a car without a title. You could sell them the car, then take the title out of a drawer and charge them with stealing, since you would have the legal title. So check the laws of your state, or call one of those people and ask them. I can't answer for them.

In most states a junkyard is authorized to accept a vehicle without a title. Call a local junkyard and ask if Illinois is one of them. The law recognizes that people won't spend more money for a title than the car is worth and the state doesn't want cars abandoned in the woods someplace.
